Late winter 2021, Dollar Tree instituted a rolling 25% price increase across the board. No longer a “dollar store,” the Dollar Tree is now a $1.25, $3 and $5 store.

If you run a tight ship on your home accounting, you will notice these price differences.

You may scan your cart before checking out to ask yourself what you can do without, putting an item or two back, as we did when shopping for this post.

You may stand in front of some things, asking, “Do I really need this?” before placing the product in your cart, more than in the old days.

After all, Dollar Tree doesn’t have a return or refund policy, it has an exchange policy.

Exchanges are accepted on unopened merchandise with the original receipt. You can’t get your money back if it doesn’t work out, so being discerning can be an ally to your bottom line.

On the upside, when things cost more, it can really help you hone in on which items bring you the most value and joy. The amount of joy each item brings we call the “joy utility.”

Each item you take home, even if it is fewer of them, can bring you more joy per unit cost when you are more mindful of what you bring to the check out stand.

All that said, there are still some pretty good deals at Dollar Tree, even if moving forward you are shopping with a more discerning eye.

At Lots of Lacquer, we do continue to buy nail supplies at the Dollar Tree, especially with generic items like nail brushes and files.

We sometimes also buy polish there, when the deal or color is right, as shown in our last article on 6 Nail Polish Brands To Get At The Dollar Store.

3 - Toenail Clippers

We don’t typically advise cutting nails, instead filing them, as cutting can promote splitting, but sometimes it is the fastest way to get to your goal.

If you must cut your nails, do it after the shower or bath, when they are most pliable and least likely to fracture.

4 - Nail Brushes

Nail brushes are incredibly handy for cleaning under the nail tip and the top nail itself after manicure prep but before paint. This is an awesome deal, so we picked these up.

As a side note, they are also useful for scrubbing produce, like potatoes.
