Butter yellow nails are the latest nail trend - they’re cute, cheerful and optimistic.

Yellow, in color theory, is associated with the feelings of warmth, joy, hope, creativity, positivity, confidence, inspiration and positive energy. It stimulates mental awareness.

It’s a longer wavelength color, between 570-590 nm, and it’s one of the brightest on the visible spectrum of light.

Yellow is the most noticeable shade known to the human eye - during both night and day. Like orange and red, two similar attention grabbing shades, yellow draws your eye - which is one of the reasons why you see it used so much during clearance sales.

Aside from the fact that it’s an attention getting color, wearing yellow on your nails can feel like having a kiss of sunshine on your hands.

You can wear yellow in any shade from neon to pastel, today we’re talking about a specific yellow: creamy pastel yellow with a touch of warmth - butter yellow nails.

Butter yellow nail polishes are the “it girl” of the season. So in this post, you will find swatches of creamy butter yellow nail polishes, in regular polish, gel and dip powder formulas.

Here are a few butter yellow nail ideas for your next manicure inspo:

Beetles Gel c043 swatch (a butter yellow creme from the Dreamy Town and Garden Getaway Collections)

Beetles Gel c043

Shown in 3 thin coats with the Beetles Foundation Base Gel and Top Coat, this is a creamy, soft pastel yellow with warm undertones.

This bottle of c043 is from the The Dreamy Town Collection, one of my favorite collections from Beetles Gel, and as one of the Beetles Gel best sellers, I’m not alone in feeling that way.

Dreamy Town contains 20 uplifting, bright pastel colors you can mix and match in 5mL bottles, which is enough formula for 8 full nail manicures.

This collection is sometimes called their Macaroon/Macaron collection because its macaron-color is inspired by the bright, pastel palette.

You can also find this shade in the The Garden Getaway Collection, a 6 piece 7.5mL macaron set, as opposed to the 20 piece 5mL set that Dreamy Town is.

With Garden Getaway, you’ll get fewer shades but more formula of each with a total product volume of 45ml. With Dreamy Town, there are more shades with less formula in each bottle, and overall, it is more expensive, but you get double the total product volume - 100mL.

You will need a UV lamp to cure this color.

OPI Buttafly

Shown in 3 coats, and from the Spring 2024 Your Way Collection, Buttafly is a light butter yellow cream with subtle gold shimmer throughout.

These gold shimmers give the polish a dash of extra sheen, but they don’t take away from the overarching creamy finish. It’s a very light touch of shimmer.

The top photo is Buttafly on its own. The bottom shows Buttafly in a chrome butter yellow nail look, using OPI Glazed N’ Amused, as a liquid chrome effect top coat.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Does Not Comcute

Shown in 3 coats, Does Not Comcute is a light, creamy butter yellow. You could wear it in 2 coats on shorter nails, but to avoid your nail tip showing, 3 coats is best on longer nails.

Insta-Dri is a fast drying “one bottle manicure” in that you do not need a base or top coat, since these qualities are built in.

What I like most about the Insta-Dri line is, compared to other quick dry formulas you can find out there, this line has the most budget friendly price point.

What do you think of the butter yellow nail trend? Cheerful? Uplifting? Does it inspire warmth, joy, positivity and hope in you?

One thing to note about butter yellow nail colors is that like most pastel shades we’ve swatched to date, they require 3 coats to reach opacity. You may be able to get away with 2 thicker coats, but you will risk the possibility of the polish drying unevenly, if at all.

So for best results, aim for 3 thin coats when applying any light pastel shade, including these butter yellow nail colors.

While you may roll your eyes at the thought of 3 coats, the silver lining is when you apply thin coats, you often end up with the most even application and quickest drying time, leaving you more satisfied with the results - both with the finished product and the time it took you to get there.
