OPI The Thrill of Brazil is one of our reader’s favorite red nail colors next to OPI Big Apple Red, however, we have only shown it to you alongside other red shades.

We’ve compared it to OPI’s OPI Red and we’ve also shared it with 4 other popular red nail polishes from OPI.

With the FIFA World Cup coming up, and Brazil being a popular team in that event, I figured now would be the perfect time to revisit this lovely red nail color and compare it to another popular red that we haven’t seen it with yet.

The Thrill of Brazil is a velvety red cream that has a touch more richness to it when compared to OPI Big Apple Red, which is a classic bright red.

This shade is listed as a red-orange and I do think it has warmth to it, plus it looks good on warm toned skin like mine.

However, it’s worth noting that some swatchers, including myself when looking at it in other lighting, believe it has some blue tone to it as well.

Either way, this isn’t a flat red cream, there’s some dimension to it, which is why I believe it has enjoyed lasting power in OPI’s line up.

Historically speaking, this is an older nail polish shade that has gained traction among nail polish fans.

It was originally released 24 years ago, in 2002, as part of the South America Collection. Another shade you may remember from that’s still around from that release is La Paz-atively Hot.

It is shown in 2 coats in the now-discontinued Infinite Shine formula.

The Infinite Shine version of this shade likely went away sometime around 2024, when OPI updated their entire Infinite Shine line and did not take all the shades with them.

Thankfully, though, The Thrill of Brazil is still available as a standard lacquer (#NLA16), in GelColor (#GCA16) and in Dip Powder (#DPA16).

Currently I’ve been loving GelColor formulas so I’ll likely pivot there.

One of the things I absolutely love about OPI is if you fall in love with a particular shade, you can generally find it in the other formula types they offer.

This means that if one line stops getting manufacturing attention, another line is still available.

It gives you some stability in being able to find and stick with a color you like, whether you change your manicure formula preferences or something changes in their production schedule.

Before we wrap up, let’s take a look at how this shade compares to another OPI color everyone loves, Cajun Shrimp.

As you can see in the image above, OPI The Thrill of Brazil is a deeper red and although it looks warmer toned in this photo, it’s definitely a red cream nail color.

Comparatively, OPI Cajun Shrimp is a lighter, orange-toned red, and it is more in the coral category of nail colors.

They are both cream nail colors, but The Thrill of Brazil is darker and redder and Cajun Shrimp is lighter and more orange.

If you’re looking for more of a classic red, get The Thrill of Brazil.

If you’re looking for more of a summer coral, get Cajun Shrimp.

Both gorgeous colors, but to me, The Thrill of Brazil is more of an all-year shade than Cajun Shrimp, which trends more in the Spring to Summer seasons.

All in all, The Thrill of Brazil is an elegant red cream from OPI.

It is a deeper toned red with some warmth, but in certain lighting scenarios or when worn by those with cooler skin tones, some of the bluer tones will come out.

I would call this red nail color one that everyone could wear because it has tones that can flatter any skin type, and perhaps that is one of the reasons we all love it.
