In this post, we’re going to cover my favorite white nail colors from Essie.
I’ve tried a lot of white nail polishes over the years, and it’s true that some formulas are much easier to work with than others.
I’ve also discovered that my personal favorites tend to be on the sheer side—I love a soft, milky white nail polish.
That said, I can definitely appreciate a classic crème white nail color.
It has a crisp, clean look, pairs well with just about any outfit, and feels especially fitting for spring and summer when you want something fresh and simple.
I do wear crème white nail polishes during the warmer months whenever I’m not in the mood for a bold color. In many ways, I use them the same way I wear blackish nail colors in the fall and winter—as a seasonal neutral.
With that said, it’s worth mentioning that many people actually consider white nail polish to be a winter shade.
"Winter whites" have always been popular.
I can definitely see the appeal.
A soft white manicure has the same clean look as freshly fallen snow.

Essie Marshmallow
Shown in two coats, Marshmallow is a classic milky white nail color. I consider it a must-try if you love sheer white nail polishes. You can wear it in two or three coats, and I find the best way to apply it without streaks is by using the float technique.
Essie Blanc
Shown in three coats, Blanc is Essie’s original white nail color. It’s a crisp white crème that works beautifully for French manicures, but I also love wearing it on my toes throughout the summer.
Gel by Essie First Fitting
First Fitting is shown here in two coats. I was wearing this color when I got engaged, so it has a special place in my heart. It's a long-wearing white, and the question I get asked most often is how it compares to Essie Blanc.
Although both are white crème polishes, the biggest difference is the finish. I find First Fitting to be noticeably shinier, while also drying a bit faster and wearing longer.
Gel by Essie Pre Show Jitters
Shown in two coats, Pre Show Jitters is an alabaster off-white crème with a subtle blush undertone. In the bottle, it looks similar to Essie Ballet Slippers, but once it's on the nail, it's much more opaque and has a true crème finish.
Essie Tuck It In My Tux
Shown in three coats, Tuck It In My Tux is a sheer white with slightly warmer undertones than Essie Marshmallow. It's a beautiful, softer take on the classic milky white manicure.
Essie Limo-Scene
Shown in three coats, Limo-Scene is a sheer vanilla white with warm, creamy undertones. I think it's especially flattering on olive and tan skin tones. Some people see pink undertones, but to my eye, it definitely leans warm.
All in all, these are my favorite Essie white nail colors.
For the best results, I recommend pairing them with an Essie base coat and top coat. The exception is the Gel by Essie shades, which only need a top coat.
