In today’s post, we’re going to be looking at my favorite Essie blue nail colors.

Blue nail polishes are currently trending and because Essie is one of the most popular brands out there, I felt like now was a good time to round them up and take a look at them.

Essie makes a variety of blue nail colors in different finishes and formulas, some of them are long-standing favorites on their roster, and others are more limited editions.

Of course, I haven’t tried them all, but that would be nice.

So below you’ll see my favorite blue colors that are actively in production and shades I’d wear again.

As I write this post, I’m actually re-wearing one of the shades, Essie Bikini So Teeny, so let’s begin there.

The swatches below move from lightest to darkest -

Essie Bikini So Teeny swatch - a light sky blue nail color

Essie Bikini So Teeny

An iconic light blue nail polish from Essie, this cornflower blue has a subtle silver sparkle that is very apparent in the bottle, but once on the nail, it looks more like a sheen.

Shown in 2 coats, I love wearing this shade in the sunny days in summer and then also in the winter months on snowy days.

Gel by Essie Once Upon A Time - a long wear icy blue nail polish

Gel by Essie Once Upon A Time

Shown in 2 coats, this icy slate blue nail polish is creamy, long-lasting and from the Enchanted Collection - a fairytale princess inspired release from late 2017 to early 2018.

Essie Off Beat Chic - a bright cyan blue nail color

Shown in 2 coats and from the late 2023 to early 2024 Odd Squad Collection, this vibrant, creamy cyan blue is eye-catching and richly pigmented.

It has yellow undertones, too, making it a blue that’s flattering for both cool and warm skin tones.

This electric, near neon blue nail polish is creamy and bold. It’s shown in 2 coats, and while it was originally released as a winter shade, it has become somewhat of a summer icon amongst nail polish lovers.

Gel by Essie Caviar Bar - a long wearing navy blue nail color

Shown in 1 coat, this long-wearing, creamy dark navy polish is so richly pigmented, I’d be comfortable defining it as inky. I love it because it has a sophisticated look and it is almost black, but not quite.

So, what do you think of these blue nail colors from Essie?

Do you have a favorite of any shown above?

I personally can appreciate each of them and several I’ve had in my collection for years, rewearing them when the moment calls for the color.

Finally, I really appreciate that blue nails are trending. I find blue nails to be relaxing to look at and it gives me a chance to showcase some of the more unique nail shades in my collection.

For best results, I recommend wearing them with a base coat, my current favorite is Here To Stay, and a Top Coat - Gel Couture is my favorite.

You technically don’t need a base coat with the Gel by Essie shades, but if you choose to use one, it could help prevent staining with some of the more richly pigmented blue colors.
